Hypomimia Got You Down? Make Smiling Part of Your Exercise Routine
A columnist known for her smile describes how she counters this symptom: "When I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2015, I read about people with Parkinson’s developing a mask-like facial expression, called hypomimia. I dreaded the thought of it."
What's the Best Exercise for Parkinson’s? We all know exercise is good for us. The problem is that life, and life with Parkinson’s, can get in the way. When we figure out what’s getting in the way, we can find a way around.Sometimes, we really need rest, not a workout. But most of the time, we could use a little push to exercise even though we feel too tired, busy or weighed down by Parkinson’s symptoms. When your motivation to move wanes, what helps you?
Michael J. Fox Foundation helps you answer this question and many more in their new, downloadable guide. It’s full of tips for exercise, whatever your challenges, and for your overall brain health and life with Parkinson’s. It also describes which exercise is best, shares inspiring stories, highlights notable exercise research results and much more. Click to Access.
Be Active & Beyond Guide
Another great resource on the benefits of exercise when you have Parkinson's is available from APDA.
Research shows that exercise is very beneficial for people with Parkinson’s, specifically a well-rounded combination of four key fitness elements: endurance (aerobic activity), strength, flexibility, and balance. But how do you get started? APDA’s Be Active & Beyond offers helpful exercise basics, helps you develop an exercise program, and is a great springboard for making exercise a part of your life and PD treatment plan. Click to Download the New Edition.
