October Newsletter & Class Schedule 10/6 - 10/12

Dear Friends:

This time of year is great for getting outside to walk and enjoy the crisp fall weather. Try and add in more movement every day to keep symptoms under control.

Please Note: There will be no Marblehead class this Wednesday, October 8th because of a COA flu clinic.

We appreciate the support that has been coming in to help us continue providing the exercise, movement, and strength-building classes, as well as educational and care partner resources that we have offered for over 12 years through Parkinson's Fitness. Please help us to continue our programming by making a donation if you can.

Thank you for helping us fill the financial gap so we can continue the mission of Parkinson's Fitness. Any donation is much appreciated!

Thank you!

Linda

Save the Date: Upcoming Support Groups:

  • Monday, October 6th at 11am at Marblehead COA
  • Friday, October 10th at 2:15pm at Danvers COA

Monday, October 6th Gail Borden hosts her Choose Happy Parkinson's Network Support Group at the Marblehead COA, 10 Humphrey Street in Marblehead. Come together after Kim's 10am Parkinson's Fitness class to share stories, ask questions, find encouragement and inspiration. “We are not alone- I am not happy I have the disease, but I am still happy.” – Gail Perry Borden

Friday, October 10th Danvers COA Support Group with Ray James will be from 2:15pm to 3:45 pm, at 25 Stone Street Danvers. Ray James is a nurse specialist in Parkinson's and also an experienced clinical researcher at Boston University Medical Center, running clinical trials in Parkinson's and other movement disorders. We will start the session with some introductions and general announcements. After about a half hour we are going to try something new! We will break up into two breakout groups, one for folks with PD and one for Care Partners, which will meet for about 30 minutes to discuss their most pressing concerns. Linda Hall will facilitate the Care Partner session and Ray James will facilitate the session for those with Parkinson's. We will then meet again for the last 20-30 minutes to recap on our discussions and come away with some things we can do to make each day a little better. Please note that the group for those with PD is only for those with PD and the group for care partners is just for care partners. We want folks to feel comfortable to express their thoughts in a safe and supportive setting.

Webinar: Wednesday, October 8th at 12 noon: Strengthening Spirituality to Improve Quality of Life with PD

Living with Parkinson’s doesn’t just challenge the body, it can stir deep questions about purpose, meaning, and what brings real comfort. If that feels familiar, please join us for a special free webinar that might just help light the way forward. Join us as Kim Beuerman, a Nationally Board-Certified Spiritual Care Provider, explores this interesting topic and guide you with compassion and practical wisdom. Our goal is to instill hope of living more fully with Parkinson’s at whatever stage you find yourself.

What you’ll discover:

  • Ways to rediscover joy, meaning, and purpose, even as Parkinson’s changes life.
  • Insights on managing non‑motor symptoms—spiritual and emotional—that often get left out of the conversation.
  • Four research‑informed tools to strengthen spirituality, support mental health, and improve overall quality‑of‑life.

Zoom: Wednesday, October 15th at 8pm: Journaling Together

Every third Wednesday of the month Brian Grant Foundation invites you to make writing part of your month! In these one-hour sessions you will have an opportunity to start or continue a writing practice, add writing to your human-ing tool box, and keep your creativity muscles conditioned. In each session, a unique prompt or question will be offered to spark creativity and then you’ll have some writing time in the company of others via Zoom. Participants are welcome to share some of the day’s writing and discuss what they discovered during the exercise, though sharing work is not required. Each session stands alone, so feel free to drop in and see what comes up when you take the expectations out of creative expression. Let’s have fun and do it together! People with Parkinson’s and Care Partners are welcome. Click to Register.
